About Julia Bettge, M.A., LPC, NCC, CATP
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with extensive experience providing therapy to adults and teens. Some of my specialities include supporting clients with chronic anxiety, perfectionistic tendencies, low self-worth, or a history of relational trauma. I also specialize in working with clients experiencing gender dysphoria and/or undergoing transition. Currently I am licensed to practice in Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania which allows me to support clients who relocate for college or work.
In 2017 I graduated with my M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. I received my B.A. from the College of William & Mary in 2011.
Prior to starting my own practice, I worked as the lead adolescent therapist in a partial hospitalization program running psychoeducational and therapeutic groups. I also spent several years working with a group practice where I provided therapy to adults, teens, and children. During this time, I developed a special interest in counseling adolescents and young adults which led me to focus my work on serving these groups.
My practice is structured in such a way that allows me to present to each session focused, energized, and prepared. Clients find that I am attentive and truly dedicated to giving them my best each session.
Offering trauma-informed and culturally sensitive counseling is important to me. I am a National Certified Counselor (NCC) as well as a Certified Child and Adolescent Trauma Professional (CATP). My therapeutic approach draws from Humanistic Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Existential Therapy.
I grew up in Northern Virginia and am grateful to live here with my family. When I am not in the counseling office, I am most likely listening to my favorite podcasts, chasing after my dog, watching documentaries, drinking coffee, reading, hiking, or planning my next trip.
